Knitting/writing muse: Lost

I've searched in all the obvious places:
under the Christmas tree

in the trash-where at least one valuable item-
goes every Christmas.

in the pile of papers next to my computer

in my night table drawer

in the kitchen junk drawer

but my muse
seems to be miffed

not enough attention
I suppose

feeling neglected
cast aside for
the gallant young men
called grandsons

So, if you see him/her tell her/him,
I really am sorry
It wasn't my intent to offend
And they are only here for such a short time

Next week: only a few days from now
and a new year

We will knit and write
to our heart's content.
