Olympic Knitting
Sassy is always in awe of the Olympic athletes as they take the field in their respective sports. All that speed and courage and risk-taking coming to the fore on the world scene.
Just recently there was an article online that suggested that risk-taking is genetic. Obviously Sassy missed that gene. However, in honor of those Olympian heroes she opted to take on a knitting challenge.
See the above photo: a sample rendering of Vicki Howell's "Embossed Drop-Stitch Leg-warmer."
Knit on size ten needle with a chunky yarn the pattern requires cabling, m1 stitches, and the pas-de-resitance, dropping a stitch for eight rows. Can you believe it? You just let go and allow the stitch to wend its way down to the bottom cross. For this knitter dropping a stitch deliberately is a challenge with a high risk factor. But envisioning all those young people ski jumping and speeding around the rink Sassy took the plunge and dropped a stitch multiple time.
Admire the openwork, the bell shape... Fear of the drop-stitch has been conquered.
On to new heights. Enjoy the Olympics.

Oh, wow! I can't wait to see the finished legwarmers! I've wanted to make a pair but don't think I'd have the patience to knit for so long.
bravo, for taking the leap!
