Memorial Day... I am

reading _Writing Toward Home_.

I am remembering home.

Home is New York... the Hudson River,

the Catskill mountains.

Georgia Heard defines my longing as querencia.

Querencia describes a place where one feels safe,

a place from which ones strength of characater is drawn,

a place where one feels at home. It comes from the verb

'querer,' which means to desire or want.

Today I knit long rounds of k2, p2,

and name my longing in Spanish.

Later I shall use this definitive word

as a writing prompt.
