Knit a River

Knit A River...

A group called I Knit
hosted a campaign in the UK
for WaterAid_--an international charity.

The charity wished to raise awareness...
millions of people around
the globe lack clean water.

Block upon block (100,000)
pieced together until
they replicated a river.

Splendid idea,
a good go, knitters.

And it sparked my desire
to knit a river.

Nothing huge...
a long scarf
in  pale  blue,
perhaps.

A reminder that my river--
the one at the bottom of the cliff--
the Hudson needs to be revered.

It is an estuary, you know.
Tide in, tide out.

Right now it is being dredged
for those terrible resident PCBs.
And some days it turns a murky
shade of brown.

Pete Seeger (the famous folk singer)
has spent years
advocating respect and care
of the river.

And a replica of the Halfmoon
slipped past this month
commemorating Hudson's
journey.

So...

Cast on,
knit a river.

Give thanks:
for clean water
and the river
you love best.
