Battle of the Bulge

'Twas a melancholy day. Sassy kept wondering why.
And she looked at the date: December 16th and she
remembered. It was the start of the Battle of the
Bulge, the last German offensive.

John Lawrence Kehoe the prince of her childhood was taken a
prisoner-of-war. Six-years-old at the time her real memory of
the telegram and the event is stored in the stories retold over the
years.

But the feeling lingers in the songs "I'll Be Home for Christmas"
and "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas."
