Shivering on the Fourth
For many years Sassy's mother-in-law Mary Frances Richards crocheted afghans using wool and a fine crochet cotton binder thread.
The grandchildren named the afghans "shiver blankets." The children would wrap-up in them on cold Adirondack winter mornings.
Today Sassy's daughters #2 and #3 are gathering for the holiday with the goal of reproducing their grandmother's "shiver blankets."
The afghan is single crochet. Begin a chain of seventy stitches, SC crochet in the back of the stitch all the way around, doubling at the corners. Subsequently you will increase a stitch between the doubled corners. Use yarns from the stash, unravel a sweater... thick or thin. Use a G or H hook depending on your yarn choices.
Create your own color combinations.
Happy Fourth of July!
