Today I'm knitting
an editor's cap.
I set the goal of
120 posts. January 1st.
Then I would
pursue the tangled
web of thoughts
therein.
Let me tell you
it's quite a maze.
In a synchronistic happenstance
a friend sent me a helpful
article about journals
written by writing teacher,
essayist, and poet Sheila Bender.
As chance would also have it
I have in my possession a
book titled:
_Writing in a New Convertible
With the Top Down: A Unique
Guide for Writers_ by
Sheila Bender and Christi Killien
Twice in my life I have owned convertibles.
In my youth the Irish crones would
counsel don't be putting the top down:
not good to be in a draft... you'll
be getting the pneumonia.
These days the nay-sayer
is the dermatologist.
"Careful of those sun rays...
use #40 sun screen, wear a
wide brimmed hat..."
So today as I don my editor's cap
I long for the freedom of the
convertible's carefree wind stream...
I need to add youth to my perspective
playfulness to my attitude, confidence
in my choices.
I think I'll put the cap aside
and make a game of this reading.
Wave as I breeze past in the
convertible with the top down.
For today I am a teen
out on the joy ride.
Now don't be tellin'!

Pat, what a perfectly playful and careful, windblown attitude! You too are in the zone.
