The Power of Pink

Every year about this time
the mitten bug bites.

Here I sit in sunny Florida
and twitch to get out
my needles and knit mittens.

I have made two needle mittens
for years and am now embarking
on a reintroduction to
three needle mittens.

To add drama I'm moving down
to a smaller size needle. I'm
working toward thicker
warmer mittens.

Mittens knitted on the scale
of exceptionally tight
and thick... like the
ones Grandma Richards
(my mother-in-law) made.

And I'm using a delicate
pink wool cashmere blend.

For Miss Frances, of course.

I'm thinking about the
power of pink.

Frances at age four
exudes a strong
female presence.

A powerful little soul,
I foresee great
resourcefulness and
strength in our coming
generation.

With their pink power
suits my granddaughters
like yours will change
the world.

More education,
less war...

Activists, lobbyists,
internet gurus...

They will march us forward
and hopefully...
carry knitting needles
in hand... the best of
all worlds.
