Snow Goose

January is a dreary month.

It lacks a spot of brightness,
a holiday if you would.

So, I took out my # 6
needles and a skein
of off-white Simply Soft
and declared a moratorium
on winter blues.

I would knit ski headbands
for the grand girls in snow
laden Connecticut.

I chose a
Craft-town pattern:
CO 16 stitches.
Row 1: knit 4, purl 8, knit 4.
Row 2: K across.
Rows: 3, 5, 7 repeat row 1.
Rows: 4,6, repeat row 2.
Row 8: Knit 4, CN 4, K 4.

Repeat the eight rows for 19 inches.

Lovely project.
Completed in a day
it promotes a sense of accomplishment.

The center cable puts one in mind
of snow geese.

Years ago in a used bookstore
I found a copy of _The Snow Goose_
by Paul Gallico.

It is the story of a painter and
a young girl who nurtured a
snow goose during World War l l.

In return the goose flew
over Dunkirk during the
worst of the battle leading small
boats through the fog and smoke
to safety.

Fact or fantasy?
Who is to know?

But dreary January days
warrant faith in miracles.

I shall weave in the ends,
of my snow goose headbands
and take myself off to the library.

A rereading of _The Snow Goose_
is highlighted on my day planner.

Pat, what another lovely story. And thank you for your kind words by email yesterday ... they did the trick!

I came across this "purl bee" and just have to share it with you. An artist I know shared the link with me ... I even love the name but wait 'til you check it out :)
