I am rereading _Stretching Lessons_
by Sue Bender.
Stretching is my theme
for the new year. Well,
not really, let's say for
January.
Today I read Bender's essay about the
famous poet, potter, and philosopher,
MC Richards, author of _Centering
In Pottery, Poetry, And The Person_.
Can't claim familial relation to
this famous lady, I regret to say.
Anyway.
MC was a friend of Benders.
In Richards later years in a period
of declining health she took
up knitting.
She gifted SB with a long
white knitted scarf.
Still a novice knitter she enclosed a
note with the scarf: "There are a few
holes I didn't intend--pure poetry.
My knitting mentor says they
are invented stitches.
Oh well!"
Holes for the soul to travel in and out of,
Bender suggests.
And says that she wears
the scarf when she wishes
to feel Richards' spirit.
Today when I knit
I shall leave spaces for my soul.

Love the blog.
Link not working to Alberta Postcards.
Pat, this is delightful. I love that thought of leaving the holes. I think you've convinced me to get that book.
